From Nancie’s Desk
Dear Friend of TCLC,
Our calendars tell us that this is the season of thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for this year. We continue to thank our Father God for His Son, Jesus. His perfect plan to redeem us through our Savior’s death on the cross remains first and foremost in our minds.
As we come to the end of another year, TCLC is grateful for all the patients that the Lord has brought us, the babies saved from abortion and the opportunity to share the gospel with so many. In January, we will send out an end-of-the-year report with all the details. However, all of us at TCLC continue to be encouraged by what God is doing here. As you know, if you have followed us for even a short time, we have a front row seat!! We are so grateful for all of you who, through God’s grace, provide the funds for us to serve. Thank you for your partnership.
Next year, it will be mandatory to add another Lake County nurse to our team. Our Nurse Manager, Carol, and her husband will be gone for three months and, of course, we want to continue our services in Lake County. Please fervently be praying for a nurse from Lake County to answer this call. We will thank God in advance for his provision!
While you are at it, please pray for a volunteer team to emerge to assist in our marketing and development endeavors. Please contact Cody here at TCLC, if you are interested or need more details.
“..in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
We’ve Been Selected!
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.” 1 Chronicles 16:8-10
Oh, my!! Have you heard the great, jump up and down, dance on the table news? On November 9th, the Supreme Court of the United States granted NIFLA’s petition and will hear arguments later in this term, probably sometime after the first of the year!!
We are praising God for His favor. Thank you to all who prayed!
Our appeal in NIFLA vs. Becerra asks the Court to reverse the decision of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which denied us a preliminary injunction against the state of California. If granted, the injunction will prohibit California from enforcing its “Reproductive FACT Act,” which mandates that pro-life pregnancy medical clinics post a sign advising how to obtain a state-funded abortion.
We must continue to pray and pray and pray. Please commit to praying each day for a win at the Supreme Court level. We must now have five justices to vote in our favor to win this case. Tom Glessner, founder and president of NIFLA (our recent guest speaker at our Annual Fall Fundraiser!), will be announcing a very similar national prayer vigil like we hosted this past summer. When the hearing date is set, you will receive more details from us.
In the meantime… “let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.” 1 Chronicles 16-10
In other news…
A state trial court judge in Riverside County has ruled the “Reproductive FACT Act” is unconstitutional under the California state constitution. The judge ruled in favor of the Scharpen Foundation, which operates a pro-life mobile medical clinic. Forcing the Scharpen Foundation to speak a message with which it fundamentally disagrees, the judge held that the law amounts to compelled speech. As such, it violates the free speech right of Scharpen. The California Attorney General has announced that he will appeal this decision to the California Court of Appeals.
Tom Glessner says, “This decision is a big win; and we will now go through the appellate process in California. Since it is a decision by a state trial court, it has no precedent outside of the county of Riverside, and only protects the plaintiff, the Scharpen Foundation. The federal lawsuit, NIFLA vs. Becerra, needs to succeed to give an ultimate judicial determination of the unconstitutionality of the law and to protect all pro-life pregnancy centers in California.”
You’ve Got Mail!
Everyone loves to receive a special letter in the mail! Unfortunately for TCLC, the task of publishing a paper copy of the newsletter for everyone is no longer cost effective. To make the most of the budget we have, we are moving forward with our plan to digitize the newsletter and many of our other mailings. Some of you have already provided us with your email address, but many more have not. If you want to continue to receive a paper copy of the newsletter you will need to let us know soon, otherwise we will either email it to you or you can read it on our donor website.
Every month we also send out receipts for every donation. However, a lot of those donations are electronic donations. We have decided to stop sending paper receipts for those donations, and instead will send you one statement at the end of the year. This will save TCLC at least $500 a year! For those of you who donate by check or cash we will continue to provide you a paper receipt with a return envelope. Please call or email us if you need to update your email address or mailing preferences with us. You can opt-out of any of our emails or other mailings at any time.
Baby Bottles Coming Soon
January is just around the corner, and that means Baby Bottles! This is a big part of our fundraising schedule and it is a critical part in making sure we have enough funds to operate at the beginning of the year and keeps us operating until the spring Walk for Life. If you want to sign up for your church, let us know ASAP so we can put together enough bottles in time. This is a great opportunity for all of us to share about TCLC and our mission.
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday
Did you know that 2018 will mark 45 years since the Roe v. Wade decision. In that time, nearly 60 million lives have been lost to abortion. On January 21, 2018, we ask that you join us in proclaiming the message that every human being both born and preborn have eternal value and is sacred and holy because our Creator God declares it so. We will also be calling and asking local pastors to let us come make a brief presentation on that day. So please mark your calendar and keep an eye out for a bulletin in your church.
Fall Fundraiser Update
A Case for Life
This year, our guest speaker, Tom Glessner gave us an eye-opening look into the culture our country is tolerating and the immense impact it has made both politically and spiritually. If you were unable to make it to the fundraiser this year, or you would like to hear the message again, we have put up his message on our website.
Please call TCLC if you did not receive the password in your mail or email. Also, we have included a picture gallery you can access from our main homepage. We are so grateful for all of you who were able to make it to this wonderful event. We hope to see you all again next year!
A Digital World
In 2018, TCLC will transition to paperless patient files. Early in November, some staff were trained in converting to Optimize, our new electronic medical records platform. The whole staff is very excited to make this move and will complete their training by mid-January.
One of the requirements is to have high-speed internet. At our main office, we have access to the best that Ukiah Valley has to offer; However, on the mobile it is a different story. Currently, we are connected to the internet through a “hotspot” provided by a smartphone onboard. This service can be spotty most times. So, we would like to ask if there is anyone positioned in Lake County (Clearlake and Lakeport) in such a way that your high-speed internet could be “borrowed” by us if we were able to park near your business. You may know of someone who can help us in this regard but might not receive this newsletter. We would be so grateful to hear from someone who could help us.
A Patient Story- The Finale
Ashley left the ultrasound room with a sense that a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. The baby is Dave’s! So, when Sally asked her how she felt she couldn’t help but let a smile shine through. The one-night mistake was in the past, and now a new baby with a bright future was ahead. Sally then asked Ashley if she was part of any church or religious organization. Ashley was a little surprised, but she knew it was a genuine question and not an accusation. She was raised within a Catholic home when she was younger, but as she got older she never had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Sally walked her through the Gospel presentation and focused on how important is was for Ashley to have a relationship with Jesus. Ashley’s heart was softened, and she was tearfully moved to receive Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Months later as Sally was following up with Ashley, she heard of the wonderful birth of a healthy, chunky little girl. She had also started attending a local church with her husband and the kids.
From Ashley’s first web search to her final ultrasound at TCLC, none of it would have been made possible without the continued support from our donors. Whether it was a one-time gift at a fundraiser, or through our monthly giving program, every donor has helped make stories like this one possible. For every ten stories like this, nine of the women choose life, and the donors are a critical part in making it all happen for His Glory!
